Aufbauend auf Arbeiten, die sich dem Feld der literarischen Autosoziobiografie zuordnen lassen (A. Ernaux, 2008; D. Eribon, 2009; J.D. Vance, 2016; u.a.) – eine Autosoziobiografie ist eine Autobiografie, die im Hinblick auf soziale Klasse sowie größere historische Entwicklungen geschrieben und kontextualisiert wird – fragt Confronting Realities aus künstlerisch-wissenschaftlicher Sicht, wie das Format einer filmischen Autosoziobiografie exploriert, beschrieben und produziert werden kann, insbesondere mit Blick auf den grundlegend kollaborativen Charakter des Filmemachens.
Hypothese/ Forschungsfragen/ Ziele
Das Hauptziel des Projekts ist die künstlerisch-wissenschaftliche Erforschung, Beschreibung und Produktion von filmischen Autosoziobiografien.
Methoden
Das Projekt ist auf vier Ebenen angelegt: Ebene (1) der autosoziobiografischen Exploration, die „Exploration Groups“ bilden wird – das „Laboratorium der filmischen Autosoziobiografien“ (LAFA). Das Ziel des LAFA ist es, Wege zu suchen und zu erforschen, wie (Auto-)Soziobiographien aus einer kunstbasierten Perspektive zugänglich gemacht sowie kontextualisiert werden können. Die Ebene (2) der filmischen Formate und Techniken beabsichtigt, Narrative und Techniken filmischer Autosoziobiografien zu entwickeln und in filmische Formate zu übersetzen. Ebene (3) der interdisziplinären und theoretischen Kontextualisierung möchte einen fundierten Konnex schaffen zwischen kunstbasierter, theoretischer und interdisziplinärer Forschung über Autosoziobiografien, filmischen Formen und kollaborativen Strategien der Kunstproduktion. Ebene (4) der Reflexion und Evaluation bildet den reflexiven Rahmen rund um das gesamte Projekt. Parallel zu diesen Ebenen entsteht das „Digitale Archiv für filmische Autosoziobiografien“ (DAFA) als Repräsentations- und Dokumentationsplattform für die kontinuierliche Verbreitung, transdisziplinäre Vernetzung und Dokumentation des Projekts.
Innovationsgrad
Bislang wurde das Feld der filmischen Autosoziobiografien weder theoretisch noch praktisch erforscht, obwohl mehrere verwandte filmische Formate existieren. Confronting Realities verspricht daher Pionierarbeit auf diesem Gebiet zu leisten. Darüber hinaus ist in Zeiten eines weltweiten Rechtsrucks, der durch einen Anstieg von Nationalismus und Populismus gekennzeichnet ist, die Frage nach den sozialen Klassen und ihren kulturellen, ökonomischen und politischen Veränderungen sowie deren Einschreibungen in individuelle Biographien wieder besonders aktuell geworden.

Confronting Realities. Working on Cinematic Autosociobiographies
In relation to literary autosociobiographies Confronting Realities asks from an art practical and theoretical point of view how the format of cinematic autosociobiographies can be explored, described and produced, especially focusing on the fundamentally collaborative character of filmmaking.
The project is designed on four levels: Level (1) of Autosociobiographical Exploration that will create the “Laboratory of cinematic autosociobiographies” (LAFA). LAFA tries to probe, explore and search, to make accessible and to contextualize one’s biography from an art-based perspective. Level (2) of Cinematic Forms and Techniques intends to develop and create narratives and cinematic techniques of cinematic autosociobiographies and translating them into cinematic formats. Level (3) of Interdisciplinary and Theoretical Contextualization wishes to build a strong foundation and interconnection between art- based and interdisciplinary research about (auto-)sociobiographies, cinematic forms and collaborative strategies of art production. Level (4) of Reflection and Evaluation intends to build a reflective framework around the project.
During all these stages the “Digital Archive of Cinematic Autosociobiographies” (DAFA), a website-based representation and documentation platform, will ensure an ongoing dissemination and documentation of the project.
So far, the field of cinematic autosociobiographies has not been explored neither theoretically nor practically, though several related cinematic formats exist. Confronting Realities therefore promises a pioneer work in this field. Furthermore, in times of a worldwide shift to the right marked by a rise in nationalism and populism, the question of social classes and its cultural, economic and political changes as well as their inscriptions into the individual have once again become topical.
